A-Land and its Values

AboitizLand is not just a real estate company that caters to the architectural needs of their customers. Beyond the uniqueness of the buildings they’ve built underlies the passion of reaching through their client’s personal growth and community development. With the brand “Developing high quality villages that nurture long term communities,” the company is driven to nurture other people‘s lives through secured communities and better living. Take for example the Mactan Economic Zone II (MEZ II) in Lapulapu City, one of AboitizLand’s industrial villages—it is a pure example of a high quality, evident security, and an environmentally clean industrial community for their patrons.

MEZ II has a total land area of 63 hectares that extends through the central part of Lapulapu city. The location is huge enough to establish quality buildings and strategic locations. Customers will not have a hard time going from building A to building C due to easy access and huge roads. As a student intern to one of the companies in MEZ II, I always appreciate how the roads are strategically constructed not to create traffic on both sides. Now, that’s high quality design, planning and implementation solely for the benefit of everyone. As much as high quality is always the goal of every undertaking, security is always a priority in every move.

“Safety first” is a universal rule that is literally executed in MEZ II. The moment a person enters the gate, security measures are already taken to prevent crimes, illegal activities, and any kerfuffle of some sort to take place. Security guards make sure everyone who enters the premises is identified through their ID cards. They are well trained and strict enough to handle situations beyond control. Much to my surprise, the first time I entered MEZ II, my thoughts took me into a realization that this place is one of a kind and it’s like America in the island of Cebu – safe and organized. Moreover, having been able to stay in the United States for a couple of years, I can’t keep but compare the places that I have been to wherever I go. That doesn’t mean that I do comparisons in a negative way, it’s just that there are places that are better than the others. MEZ II is definitely one of the best industrial villages that I have been to. Apart from its evident security, it is also environment-friendly.

Cleanliness in the environment creates an image of respectability, hospitality, and sustainability. It is an atmosphere that would call for respect not only to the location itself but the people around it as well. MEZ II Clearly has this characteristic that is evident from one corner to the other. Definitely due to its clean surroundings, there are forty-eight and counting light to medium industries that occupy the vicinity. Aside from that, clean environment also transcends the spirit of hospitality to visitors and future investor’s, which would inevitably induce more businesses and job opportunities. Consequently, the still workforce of more than eighteen thousand will increase tremendously. Indeed, clean environment changes lives for the better. If people have better status in life, sustainability in the environment is not far off. The quality of life an individual has is generally directly relative to the choices he makes. Therefore, good life and clean living sustains the environment.

All this considered, AboitzLand truly has passion for better ways. The company is well driven to lead and provide quality houses and better homes with affordable prices. They are driven to excel to reach far beyond what they can offer the people to meet and even exceed their expectations. They are also driven to serve and create a life-long value for their customers. These are values that they do best because they make communities that are made for life.

The Revelations on an Impressive Interview

Job interviews can be very nerve racking and heart pumping. Especially when it is done in a panel of three who may soon be your future Bosses, in a company you very eager to work with, if God permits. You can not just simply expect anything out of obscurity or unpreparedness but as a future worker of the company you have to level up – Be the best no matter what it takes. Never in my life had I been to one of the best job interviews that this country had to offer and that is only found in Aboitiz Equity Venture’s (AEV) offices in Banilad, Cebu City.

Arriving at the building more than an hour ahead for my awaited interview was an actual circumstance of how I badly needed the job. Considering the fact that both traffic and the scalding temperature conspired to make things inconvenient, I managed to arrive at the place with an adequate sense of confidence and optimism to be hired. The security guards were so accommodating even though they weren’t still allowed to let the visitors enter the vicinity of its offices because it was lunch time. So, I waited and kept on thinking what would be the probable questions in the interview. An impression came to mind that this company truly takes care of their employees as these security men radiates professionalism even in the lowest echelons of the company especially when it comes to dealing with customers in front of them. Not only that, when I was finally able to enter the building, I saw employees working with a smile on their faces and with a commendable sense of belongingness towards each other just like a family. I thought, “wow! I can feel the spirit of Aloha in here”. I continued to wait at the lounge while familiar faces came and said their greetings.

In spite the "good luck" phrases and encouragements, I couldn’t help but feel anxious about how the interview would turn out. I kept a prayer with faith in my heart that I would be blessed. One of their HR personnel came and approached me at the lounge and said, “Its time for the interview”. My heartbeat raised but still I kept my composure and confidence.

As the HR Personnel led me to the office, I was wondering who’s going to interview me for the job until I came in and saw the Assistant Vice President of the Branding Department, Ms Carol Ballesteros. Her exemplary sense of professionalism made me feel at ease. Then, two ladies came in and sat on the seats provided for them. I thought, “Panel interview! Again”. The two ladies introduced themselves as Ms Ganzo, Manager from the External Communications Dept. and Ms Biyen, a Corporate Communications officer. I was nervous yet focused to get things done accordingly. Concentrating on every question they asked and answering them the best way I know how according to my experiences. Ms Carol moves on by saying, “We are creating a new department joining together Branding and Corporate Communications. It is called Reputation Management Department. Your job will be an Assistant to the Department and the three of us will be your bosses”. Then, smart interview questions were raised one after the other as I answer each one the best and honest way I could.

One of the questions that struck me during the interview was with MsGanzon’s words, “Can u handle pressure? Why Aboitiz?,” It was a very simple question but the weight of those words seemed pretty heavy. With all honesty, I said, “Yes.. Because, Aboitiz truly takes care of their employees. That’s what I noticed and I love that.” At the middle of the interview, I actually got dizzy a bit but that didn’t stop me from answering their questions intelligently.

I liked how the panel did the interview. Aside from the fact that those bosses knew what they really wanted, they always smiled and made the interviewee feel at ease. I thought, “I want to work with these corporate leaders and learn from them.” I was amazed that even though I still haven’t been deemed worthy to work with them, I was learning so much!

The Interview lasted for almost an hour in total. I went out of the room with much more confidence, because I have withstood pressure and made it my motivation to endure and do my best; and a greater sense of affinity in dealing with corporate leaders, as well as hopeful to have the privilege of working with them in the future.

Heartaches and New Beginnings...

Who could have thought, years of bliss,

Ends in an unlike manner: an abyss of sadness.

So much of a conceived, joyful eternity,

Underneath is unconsciously siege with the thief named reality.

Who could have expected,

One is blinded, truth has been neglected.

In spite awful circumstances,

One unconsciously welcomes pretenses.

Confusion occurs as reality sinks-in,

Break-up comes handy and then built in.

Words like heartache and pain comes true,

Agony and burden is so not far through.

A crucial question appears out of obscurity,

Ironic, that one could answer it in a state of uncertainty.

Am I going to continue my love story and discount ill experiences?

Or I have had enough, what are life’s lessons for?! Does it make sense?

No question can satisfy what pain has delivered.

No intelligence can comprehend what hurt has implanted.

A medicine is needed to heal deep wounds

Only Time is the capsule to break all bounds.

A new beginning has come, time to regain strength.

In spite all the Kerfuffle that seems endless in length.

Love stories can begin again: promising and exciting.

Lessons learned will always be a guide and would not be misleading.

To love is to accept that things are not perfect,

To care is to give without any suspect.

Love again like you’ve never loved before,

For who knows? He or she can be the one you’ve been waiting for.
